Lead Testing Letter

2016 Lead Testing Update

Dear Chappaqua Families,

I am writing to follow up on an email that was sent in October 2016 regarding lead testing.

On December 2, 2016, an independent agency retested water samples from the 76 locations that initially showed concentrations of lead over 15 parts per billion (ppb).

The results are back and of those 76 locations that were retested, only 5 science classroom lab sinks and 1 storage closet sink at Bell Middle School still showed levels over 15 ppb. Corrective action for these 6 sinks includes keeping the already prominently posted “do not drink from this faucet, hand washing only” signs, and the replacement of pipes this summer, when these science classroom labs are scheduled to be renovated as part of the 2016 Capital Projects Bond.

The complete Sept./Oct. report and details of the corrective action(s) taken, along with the December retesting report, are posted on the Buildings & Grounds section of the District's website.

Regards,

Dan McCann
Interim Superintendent of Schools
