Superintendent's Update #9

September 23, 2020

Dear Chappaqua Central School District Community:

I hope this email finds you and your families well. I would like to update you on our academic schedule for the next two weeks, as well as our pathway forward.

Next week we will continue in our current model. This will allow us the time we need to onboard and train new staff, while also allowing for the fingerprint clearance and background check processes to be completed.

The schedule for 9/29, 9/30, 10/1 and 10/2 is as follows:

Horace Greeley High School: Students will continue following the hybrid schedule at ⅓ capacity.

Middle School Program: Students will continue to follow a hybrid schedule at 50% capacity.

Elementary School Program: Students will attend school every day. Remote learners and those who fail the daily screening will be permitted to access the virtual program.

* Wednesday will continue to be a half-day for all levels.

Beginning on Monday, October 5th, we will increase the number of students that we have onsite at our Middle Schools and Greeley as outlined below:

Horace Greeley High School: Students will continue following the hybrid schedule at 50% capacity.

Middle School Program: All students will attend school every day. Remote learners and those who fail the daily screening will be permitted to access the virtual program.

Elementary School Program: All students will continue to attend school every day. Remote learners and those who fail the daily screening will be permitted to access the virtual program.

*Wednesdays will continue to be half-days for all levels.

While we plan to open fully to all students in grades K-8, please be aware that a building may need to move to full remote instruction on a given day due to coverage issues as a result of staff absences. Therefore, if a school anticipates a staff absentee rate of 10% or greater on a given day, and can not cover classes internally, the building will be fully remote for the day. Every effort will be made to notify the school community of a building closure by 7PM the evening before.

As a reminder, elementary and middle school parents who would like their children to move to full remote instruction, or who would like to move from full remote instruction to onsite learning, must fill out this CHANGE OF STATUS FORM by Thursday at 5pm for the following week.

Our staff and administrators continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of our students. I thank you for your continued patience and understanding as we make the necessary adjustments to our protocols and schedules. We value the partnership with our parents and the larger community.

Sincerely,

Christine Ackerman, PhD
Superintendent of Schools
