Assistant Superintendent of Pupil Personnel Services
On June 23, the Chappaqua Central School District Board of Education named Ms. Ellen Doherty as assistant superintendent for pupil personnel services, effective September 1, 2020.
Since 2012, Ms. Doherty was principal at White Plains High School where she oversaw a staff of over 200 including nine administrators. Prior to that, she was principal at John Jay High School from 2008-2012. Ms. Doherty spent many years in the Katonah-Lewisboro School District in the special education services department. She has extensive experience developing special education programs and providing curriculum development and oversight for six school buildings K-12.
Before her work in Katonah-Lewisboro, Ms. Doherty was program coordinator and social worker at Putnam Northern Westchester BOCES. “Ellen has a reputation of establishing a culture of respect and collaboration between and among administrators, faculty, staff, students and their families,” said superintendent Dr. Christine Ackerman. “She is an experienced educational leader and we look forward to welcoming her to CCSD and benefiting from her visionary leadership.”
“I am thrilled to join the Chappaqua Central School District,” said Doherty. “I look forward to working with our students, families and colleagues as we move into the 2020-21 school year and beyond.” Earlier in her career, Doherty was also a primary therapist at Four Winds Hospital and a staff writer at Gannett Newspapers. Doherty received a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from University of New York at Purchase.
She also holds a Master of Social Work from NYU and a Certificate of Advanced Study in School Administration from Columbia University Teachers College. She is certified as a New York State School District Administrator and is a New York State Certified Clinical Social Worker. She also holds a New York State Permanent Certificate in School Social Work. Doherty resides in Cortlandt Manor.
