World Read Aloud Day 2019
World Read Aloud Day also hopes to raise awareness of the educational challenges that many children face and to raise awareness about the importance of reading aloud and sharing stories on behalf of the estimated 793 million people who cannot read.
Here in Chappaqua, some of the ways in which we celebrated our love of the written word included:
Community volunteers and District staff spent time in classrooms reading to students.
Upper grades met with their lower-grader buddy classes and read to each other.
Cross-Town Read Aloud
Using the Global Learning Center as a backdrop, students from Grafflin Skyped with fellow readers at Roaring Brook for a group read aloud.
Grafflin students got to chat with Laurie Wallmark, who writes about women and STEAM. She gave students a sneak peek of her (at the time) yet-to-be-released book, "Hedy Lamarr's Double Life: Hollywood Legend and Brilliant Inventor".
Nothing like some alone time to get lost in a great book and travel on a new adventure!
